Mass-produced articles such as screws are manufactured under high cost pressure. Consequently, Profibus encoder short cycle times, fast resetting and high reliability of reforming machines are important requirements. The male and female dies operate at pressures up to 1,500 kN and are controlled using Profibus encoder servo motors. Speed and position are detected by rugged HUEBNER incremental encoders. Such a reforming machine can operate up to 240 strokes per minute and is able to form steel wire up to 19 mm diameter and 170 mm length into pressed parts. HUEBNER incremental encoders, (see photo, several OG 6) were modified for this tough application as the oil mists reach a temperature up to +80°C: changes include increased degree of protection class IP 65, special flange with integral coupling and oil resistant cable conduit. HUEBNER HeavyDuty technology ensures high shock resistance and reliability - essential requirements for any machine in three shifts per day operation. HUEBNER Technology: Rugged construction with solid aluminium housing for high vibration and shock resistance in accordance with IEC 60068-2-6 and IEC 60068-2-27. High-threshold logic (HTL) signals with short-circuit proof output power transistors up to 300 mA or line driver IC or TTL signals meeting RS-422. EMC in compliance with CE regulations. Versions with large through-hole hollow shaft. Versions with rear extension shaft. Versions with explosion protection to ATEX 95 / 100a " II 2 G EEx de IIC T6 resp. T5". In sheet metal working, laser cutting machines have proved successful as alternatives to punching machines. For thin sheets up to 2 mm thick the advantages are particularly outstanding: high cutting speed combined with great positioning accuracy. The parts remain flat, no deburring is required and the shape of the sheet can easily be altered. The machine with the components has an operating speed of 170 m/min and a cutting accuracy of ±0,05 mm. This performance is achieved by direct drives which, without intermediate gears, provide fast acceleration and high resolution. HÜBNER incremental encoders HOG 60 in HeavyDuty technology are built onto the direct drives. Thus, the robustness necessary for coping with rough working conditions is combined with the precision of 10,000 pulses per revolution. HUEBNER Technology: Rugged construction with solid aluminium housing for high vibration and shock resistance in accordance with IEC 60068-2-6 and IEC 60068-2-27. A leading company in the automotive parts manufacturing industry produced mass parts on a high-performance cold forming press. Operating three shifts per day alternator poles for electric generators can be manufactured in batch sizes up to 250,000 parts at 38 strokes per minute and a nominal pressing force of 10,000 kN. The specially developed knuckle-joint drive is optimally designed to the cold forming process: the punches engage smoothly to avoid force peaks. The result is a fundamentally higher operating life of punch and matrix. Load changes caused by the forming process are equalized by a fly-wheel, which is driven by a controlled 135 kW DC motor. This is a more economic solution than an AC drive with inverter control. For sensing the motor speed and redundancy supervision of the safety overspeed limit a HUEBNER LongLife twin tacho TDPZ 0,2 with enhanced shock protection is used, which is particularly suited for this hazardous task due to its rugged electrical and mechanical features. HUEBNER Technology: Rugged construction with solid aluminium housing for high vibration and shock resistance in accordance with IEC 60068-2-6 and IEC 60068-2-27. High accuracy of the speed to voltage characteristic from crawl to highest speeds. Isolated tacho voltage with fast response time over the full speed range. Temperature range from -30 °C to +130 °C. Optional: Twin tacho with two separate tacho voltages. Optional: Rear extension shaft. Versions with explosion protection to ATEX 95 / 100a " II 2 G EEx de IIC T6". Combinations of incremental encoder and tachogenerator and/or speed switch with a common shaft. ... and what's in it for you ? With a reflector diameter of 100 m the Effelsberg Radio Telescope is worldwide the most powerful single telescope. Cosmic radio sources with wavelengths around 1.3 cm can be resolved to 36 arc seconds. This high performance is achieved through extreme precision: the reflector, with a surface area of 7800 sq.m., the size of a football pitch, deviates typically 0.5 mm from its ideal shape of a paraboloid. The structure, with an overall weight of 3200 tons is constructed on four chassis with a total of 32 wheels. They run on a ring rail aligned horizontally to within ±0.3 mm. The tracking system of the radio telescope demands high precision control with preloaded drives. The position is measured with a digital angle encoder. The "speed" can be reduced down to 30 hours for 360° azimuth and 60 hours for 90° elevation. Analogue speed control using dc shunt motors have proven to be particularly suitable. The speed is sensed in real time by HUEBNER LongLife tachogenerators TDP 0,2 which despite harsh environmental conditions in open air are extremely appropriate for this unusual task.
